12 women learn sewing and jewellery-making, earn a monthly wage and are supported on their path towards self-employment.
The Sewing and Creative Project is the founding project of the association Take a Malaika e.V. Currently, 12 women from economically and socially difficult circumstances are being supported. In the group, the women learn to sew on a sewing machine, make jewellery and develop other creative skills.
The handmade products are sold locally as well as at markets and fairs in Germany. From the sales proceeds, the women receive a monthly wage that makes an important contribution to their livelihood. This recognition of their work strengthens their motivation and self-confidence.
In regular business trainings, the women receive information about starting their own business. Take a Malaika e.V. supports them with a micro-loan.
Current figures
The group is led by Helen, a professional seamstress since 2004 and part of our team since 2019. It currently comprises around 12 women.
Between December 2025 and April 2026 the group generated sales of TZS 332,000; in August and September 2025 a special order worth TZS 150,000 for the Mama Malaika Restaurant was added.
