Violence prevention through education (ICC-T)
Violence against children is one of the most serious social challenges of our time. Physical and emotional violence leaves deep marks — often with lifelong consequences. That is why Home of Malaika is committed to preventing violence in schools and fostering lasting change in Tanzania's education sector.
With the programme "Interaction Competencies with Children for Teachers", we train teachers to apply non-violent conflict resolution strategies and create a safe learning environment. The programme was jointly developed by Bielefeld University and the University of Dar es Salaam.
Project coordination is led by Ibrahimu Mkopi, who works closely with our team and local schools. Trainings take place specifically during school holidays.
Culturally sensitive and locally rooted
Cultural and social norms play a major role in the emergence of violence. That is why we develop all measures together with local partners and ensure a culturally sensitive implementation. This builds trust and ensures that what is learned becomes a lasting part of everyday school life.
Outlook
In the long term, we want to expand the programme further — eventually also for parents and children. Its launch was made possible by the generous support of Rotary Club Winsen (Luhe). Long-term, the project depends on donations.
Current figures
First trainings already took place in April and June 2025 with 32 teachers. The project officially started in April 2026: by December 2026 we want to run ten trainings with more than 300 teachers.
This is funded by a €10,000 grant from the Georg Kraus Stiftung plus €3,000 of our own funds – a total project budget of €13,000.
