Understanding Tanzania: Country, History and Project Work

Tanzania is a country of great historical, cultural and geographic diversity. The Olduvai Gorge in the north is one of the world’s most important sites for discoveries relating to early human history. In the decades following independence, the country also played an important role in supporting African liberation movements.

Climate shapes daily life as well. Many regions experience a longer rainy season from March to May and a shorter one from October to December. Heavy rainfall can make travel and school attendance more difficult. Our work addresses areas where such conditions affect opportunities: childcare, educational support, protection from violence and economic prospects for women.
