Kitenge and Kanga: The Fabrics Used by Our Sewing Group

Tanja und Helen wählen farbenfrohe Stoffe aus

Many fabrics used by our sewing group are Kitenge or Kanga. Kitenge is a sturdy cotton fabric with bold patterns and is well suited to robust products. Kanga is lighter and traditionally carries a proverb in Swahili, combining design with a message.

Tanja, who founded the sewing group, and Helen, the group’s leader, select new fabrics together. They are transformed into unique handmade pieces. Every purchase directly supports the women involved and connects traditional textile knowledge with new economic opportunities.
